The American Advertising Federation has awarded Encore Video Productions, Inc. of Myrtle Beach (SC) a Third District Addy for advertising excellence. The award winning production, Addy Patrol, is a series of humorous video vignettes spoofing the surprise visits of a balloon waving, giant check-bearing prize patrol to the homes of unsuspecting magazine sweepstakes winners. The production was first shown at the 2001awards gala of Coastal Advertising and Media Professionals (CAMP), the Myrtle Beach areas AAF affiliate club, where it was judged a local Addy winner in the category of media self-promotion.
The AAFs Addy Awards is the nations largest advertising competition, created to honor excellence in advertising and to cultivate the highest creative standards in the industry. The federations Third District is comprised of member advertising clubs in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
Addy Patrol was produced and directed by Encore president and chief videographer Rik Dickinson, a charter member of CAMP and a winner of the clubs coveted Silver Medal Award for lifetime achievement in advertising.
"I wanted to turn the prize patrol idea upside down," Dickinson said. "Instead of the people answering the door being the ones showing shock and surprise, our Addy Patrol crew becomes the unsuspecting target of a bow and arrow-wielding toddler, a love-starved spinster, and even a trio of hot tub skinny dippers." To complete the parody, the crews banner bedecked minivan careens from house to house with lights flashing, sirens wailing and tires screeching.
